I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis a few years ago. Despite the use of medications, my joints ache to some extent every day. Some days are better than others, but on bad days, I have trouble getting out of bed. Showering can be a major problem on days that I am having trouble moving. I find that it is easier to shower when I can sit down. I tried using a plastic shower seat for a while, but I found it hard to maneuver. I hired a contractor to remodel my bathroom. I also hired an interior designer. I thought she may be able to help convey my ideas to the man who would be doing the work. I explained that I wanted a walk-in shower that would be big enough to sit down in when the need be. I told he of my arthritic condition, and also made her aware of the problems I had in the past with the plastic shower seat. She suggested a teak shower seat. She brought a mobile seat for me to try, and I just loved it. She incorporated the teak into the design of my shower. When it was finished, I was pleased. I have a terra cotta walk-in shower, with a teak full-bench seat along the back wall. I can stand on the days I am able to and sit on the days I can’t stand. The teak shower bench is comfortable when I need to use it, but beautiful on the days that I do not have to employ its use. The color of the teak compliments the color of the stone. My bathroom is beautiful and functional.
