The year 2010 will be the year for Verizon’s domination in wireless technology and high speed internet providers. As the winning bidder for the recently concluded FCC auction last March 20, Verizon president and CEO, Lowell McAdam, stated that “We now have sufficient spectrum to continue growing our business and data revenues well into – and possibly through – the next decade, and this is the very best spectrum with excellent propagation and in-building characteristics,”. The company said that this will give an advantage for the development of 4G technology on wireless devices like cellphones, gaming consoles and medical devices. After Verizon paid $9.36-B and television companies all go digital by next year, Verizon will acquire the full ownership of 700MHz. According to McAdam, “We also believe that the combination of the national, contiguous, same-frequency C-block footprint and our transition to LTE will make Verizon the preferred partner for developers of a new wave of consumer electronics and applications using this next generation technology.” Will this be an advantage for digitally dependent subscribers? Or, an advantage for the company alone?
